Home from Home Adoption
Home from Home Adoption
What is a "Home from Home" adoption?
Rather than going to a foster home, a "Home from Home Adoption" allows the cat to stay in their current home environment until they have been suitably matched to a new family.
Why home from home?
Cats in general don’t like change, and so keeping a cat in its own environment means no upheaval while their new home is being sorted out. Once everything is in place, they’ll only have to deal with one move, creating far less stress for the cat.
How long does the process take?
Catitude work with both the current and prospective owners to ensure that the right match has been found. Every cat and every person is different, so the process could take as little as a day to a few weeks, or even months.
It’s about finding the right home, not a "right now" home.
Home from Home Donation Fees
These are the same as our standard donation fees. All Home from Home cats still have a thorough vet check to ensure Catitude has given the cat the best care before going to their new home.
The Process for Current Owners
We understand that this process can be heart-breaking for any owner. Rest assured that we will work tirelessly with you to match your kitty with the right new family.
Procedure
- Visit our website, complete and print the Surrender Form and then send it to
This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. (a photo of it will do) - a team member will be in touch to go through the relevant information on the application and get the process started.
- you will need to get a health check for your cat from your vet, together with written confirmation of their current vaccination status
- on Catitude receiving all documentation we will start the process of finding your cat a new home.
- once a suitable potential match has been found, Catitude will pass the adoptees contact information (with their consent) to you directly.
- The current owners contact potential adoptees directly to arrange a viewing.
- once a viewing has taken place, if both the current owners and the adoptees are happy, the cat can go to their new forever home.
- the adoption paperwork which the adoptees will bring must be filled in and signed before the cat can leave.
Please note that the current owners always have the final say in who eventually adopts their beloved kitty. You have the absolute right to refuse the adoption for any reason if you feel the match isn’t suitable .
The Process for Potential Adopters
Giving up a beloved animal is very difficult for any owner, so we would ask for your patience and understanding if you encounter a few bumps along the way.
Procedure
- Visit our website, complete and submit the Adoption Application Form.
- One of our team will be in touch to review your application carefully and ensure that you and your chosen cat are a potentially suitable match for each other.
- all relevant checks will be done to ensure we are placing the cat in a safe area and environment.
- after all checks are completed you will start the viewing process.
- if you have chosen a home from home kitty, your number with your consent (GDPR guidelines) will be passed over to the owners.
- the current owners will contact you directly to arrange a viewing at their home.
- once a viewing has taken place, if both the current owners and the adoptees are happy, the cat can go straight to their new forever home.
- the adoption paperwork that will have been sent to you on a confirmation email must be filled out and signed before the cat is allowed to leave.
Important
The current owners always have the final say in who eventually adopts their beloved kitty, and have the absolute right to refuse the adoption for any reason. We are happy to mediate if you feel that you haven’t “made your case” properly, but we will not overrule the owner’s final decision.
Could you be a cat's forever human?
If you think you might be able to offer a cat their forever home, please fill out the adoption form and one of the team will get back to you as soon as possible.
Thank you so much,
The Catitude Rescue Team
